We are the Washington Animal Rescue League, one of the District's oldest animal shelters. When we were founded 85 years ago in 1914, our main concern was the city's overworked and neglected horses. We've come a long way since then. Today we focus on providing the best of care to hundreds of dogs and cats until we can find them a good, loving home.
Join us in helping as a donor, a volunteer or by adopting a pet.
 We also operate a full-service, low cost medical center for the pets of the metropolitan area's low-income residents. At our state-of-the-art hospital, we provide a wide range of care for our community's animals from good health care maintenance to illness and broken bones.
Come visit us in our bright,sparkling facility to meet all the current residents. They will happily wag, bark and meow their hellos to you. We welcome you to the shelter to adopt a pet and/or join the league.
